The Sawtooth Mountain Mamas is a service organization for the community in and around Stanley, Idaho. The purpose of the organization is threefold; to raise funds for contribution to organizations in the valley; to provide support to valley organizations and; be a social network for the women of the valley. All women of the area are welcome to attend – no dues, no minimum attendance, no exclusions of any sort. Along with serving the community, we enjoy getting together for fun and friendship.
We have regular meetings once a month on the 2nd Wednesday at a member’s house. We are organized in that we have officers and try to run the meetings in somewhat parliamentary fashion. As many as can, and wish to, eat breakfast each Friday together at a local restaurant.
Our current major activities include the Sawtooth Mountain Mamas Arts and Crafts Fair held the 3rd weekend of July. This is our major fund raiser. We have an Opportunity Quilt raffle each year with the proceeds going to a specific community need. The Mamas also sponsor the Stanley Sawtooth Cowboy Gathering in September celebrating the traditions of the American West and the working cowboy through poetry, stories, and music.
We use the funds we raise to help local organizations and individuals: EMTs, Salmon River Clinic, Stanley School, Fire Department, Library, Meditation Chapel, City, Chamber of Commerce, Museum and more. We have a Scholarship Fund and give scholarships each year to young people who have attended Stanley School. We furnished the kitchen for the Community Building as well as helped in the construction. We were also instrumental in landscaping the corner in Stanley and installing rock signs.
We do not do these fund raisers and events without the help of many others: men, kids, and organizations join forces to benefit our community. Many of us are part of those organizations.
But, most of all, we have fun!!
